Iris Cheng

Research Manager

Iris leads ZCA’s team of researchers, devising and delivering strategic research that informs and drives climate actions.

Previously an energy expert at Greenpeace International, Iris co-led the global coal campaign and led a team researching the water use of the global coal fleet. She designed effective research-led environmental campaigns based on the IDEAL framework (Investigate, Document, Expose, Act, Lobby). Her work helped to establish water scarcity as a constraint for coal expansion and contributed to the significant scaling down of coal plant expansions in the past decade.

Iris has worked with national campaigns and partners in many regions of the world and brings expertise in how to deploy different kinds of research work, including data, investigations and desk research. She is passionate about fostering a just, equitable and inclusive approach to tackling the climate crisis, having previously worked on human rights and gender-based violence at Amnesty International.

She holds a BSc in Physics from Imperial College, London and an MA in International Studies and Diplomacy from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), the University of London.
