Zero Carbon Analytics (ZCA) is an international research group providing insights and analysis about climate change and the energy transition.

Our researchers and analysts specialise in understanding and synthesising the developments in energy systems, nature, land use, climate science, just transitions and other important topics in the climate debate.
We are committed to producing impactful research and analysis to drive climate action. Our research informs and supports the work of journalists, policymakers, advocacy organisations, investors and businesses.

Amy Kong
Research Analyst

Amy is the team’s researcher focusing on energy transition and finance. She previously worked as an analyst at Bloomberg where she fielded financial market queries covering commodities. She has also been a researcher at TMT and socio-economic issue consultancies. She is based in London. Amy holds a BSc in Economics from the University of Bristol.

Filipe provides support for research, project management and digital work, especially ZCA’s website and social media. Originally from Portugal, he is currently based in Geneva, Switzerland. He has prior experience in strategic communications, research activities and public affairs, and holds a BSc in European Studies and International Relations from the University of the Azores, as well as an MSc in Environmental and Sustainability Studies from ISCTE University Institute of Lisbon.

Jessica Nicol

Jessica Nicol
Research Analyst

Jessica specializes in macroeconomics, finance, and trade. Before joining ZCA, she worked as a researcher with the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment and the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action, under the Helsinki Principle 4 workstream. She has also supported the OECD’s Inclusive Forum on Carbon Mitigation Approaches and the United Nations ESCAP’s Regional Action Programme for Air Pollution.
Jessica holds dual master’s in Environmental Management from Peking University and Environment & Development from The London School of Economics, with academic research in the macroeconomic barriers and accelerators of the energy transition. She also holds a BA in International Studies from The College of New Jersey.

Jennie is the team’s production editor, working on editing and distributing ZCA research. She has 15 years of editorial experience, working on emerging markets, with a focus on Africa. She is originally from the US and is now based in Brussels. Jennie holds a bachelor’s degree (honours) in English literature from Tufts University.

Joanne Bentley-McKune
Senior Research Analyst

Jo focuses on climate risks to natural ecosystems. She is a publishing scientist with over 10 years of academic research experience, focusing on how plants, animals and ecosystems respond to environmental change, with a particular emphasis on the threats posed by climate change. She also has many years of experience as a scientific editorial consultant in the fields of agriculture, biochemistry and ecology, and acted as an expert reviewer for the WGII contribution to the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report.

Jo holds a PhD in Molecular Biology, an MSc in Biological Sciences and a BSc in Environmental Sciences from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She is based in Cape Town, South Africa.

Research Production Manager

As content lead, Kate supports the ZCA team in communicating its research. Before this, she spent eight years with the Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), developing climate-focused research communications in partnership with a global network. Kate has extensive experience as an editorial specialist working with INGOs and think tanks on issues including human rights, public health, and education. She is based in London and holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from University College London.

Katie is ZCA’s editor and audience lead, working on the editing and distribution of ZCA research and overseeing our audience targeting. Previously, she worked in communications for REN21, a renewable energy think tank. Originally from the UK but now based in France, Katie holds an interdisciplinary BASc with a major in Anthropology from University College London and a master’s in Urban Public Policy from Sciences Po, Paris.

Nick focuses on clean energy and electricity grids. Prior to joining Zero Carbon Analytics, he worked in the energy access space, developing financial models for solar PV projects in low-income communities in South Africa. Nick started his career as a financial journalist before moving into the climate and energy field. He has a strong interest in tracking the leaders in climate action and sustainable development.

Nick holds an Economics Honours degree from Rhodes University. He is based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Victoria Kalyvas

Victoria specialises in climate science and policy. Before joining the research team, she worked as a consultant for the UN Partnership for Action on Green Economy in Geneva, as well as in other roles focused on business sustainability, international climate frameworks and youth climate campaigning.

She has a master’s in Environment, focusing on climate change policy, and a BSc majoring in Genetics from the University of Melbourne. She is currently based in Berlin, Germany.

Yu Sun Chin
Senior Regional Researcher

Yu Sun is a senior researcher focusing on fossil fuel financing and technologies in East and Southeast Asia. Previously, she worked as a communications officer at Solutions for Our Climate (SFOC), a climate think tank in South Korea, looking into overseas coal financing by Korean public financial institutions and corporations. Yu Sun studied journalism and international studies at Northwestern University in Chicago. She is now based in Seoul.
